Canadian R&B singer Jessie Reyez was introduced to music by her father. She began playing the guitar at a young age and wrote her first song while still in high school. She was noticed by rapper King Louie in 2014 while being mentored by Daniel Daley at The Remix Project's Academy of Recording Arts. The same year, she collaborated on the single "Living in the Sky" with King Louie, followed by "Then it Hurts (Selena)" in 2015. Her debut EP Kiddo, released in 2017, won her multiple nominations at the Juno Awards, iHeartRadio Much Music Video Awards, MTV Music Video Awards and more. Her first full-length album Being Human in Public earned her her first Grammy nomination in the Best Urban Contemporary Alum category.
