When alternative rock outfit The Pixies were on tour in Europe, the band's bassist, Kim Deal, had an idea to start a side project. The band she envisioned would come to be called The Breeders and it would make a unique style of pop influenced rock, fairly similar to The Pixies - but with Deal singing instead of Frank Black. The group became a reality, released a number of recordings over the years and is held by many in indie rock circles as an extremely pertinent band to emerge out of the late 1980s.
