Newcastle upon Tyne-based singer-songwriter Richard Dawson specializes in folk-influenced music. He released his first album Richard Dawson Sings Songs and Plays Guitar in 2007. But his breakthrough came in 2011 with the album The Magic Bridge, which catapulted him out of Newcastle's indie scene and earned him critical acclaim. His subsequent records, 2013's The Glass Trunk and 2014's Nothing Important were largely inspired by Sufi music and featured collaborations with the likes of Rhodri Davies. The album Peasant, released on Weird World Records, was based on Dawson's research of Northeast England and was declared the record of the year by Quietus. He changed directions with 2019's 2020 which featured a prominent rock vibe.
