Formed by Mike Rutherford, one of the original founders of Genesis, Mike and the Mechanics was initially meant to be a band that released material and toured in between the albums of Genesis, Rutherford's primary band. Though the group's lineup was fairly inconsistent, it enjoyed a fair amount of success, most notably for the single "Silent Running," from the 1986 film Choke Canyon. The UK band primarily released new wave-styled adult contemporary pop, progressing its sound slightly as it continued to create music through the 1990s and up until 2007, when Rutherford decided to disband his project. However, just two years later, when Genesis was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Rutherford announced that he had reformed Mike and the Mechanics, this time with R&B singer Andrew Roachford and actor Tim Howar. The trio released a new album in early 2011 and embarked on a subsequent tour.
