D.O.A. is a Canadian punk rock band from Vancouver, British Columbia, that is often referred to as one of the founders of hardcore punk. Formed in 1978 by ex-members of The Skulls, the band released its debut album, Something Better Change, with Friends Records in 1980, packed full of its signature leftist populist messages. The band's seminal sophomore LP, Hardcore '81, is credited with having coined the name of the hardcore punk movement that would follow. Despite a shifting lineup and an evolving music scene, D.O.A. maintains its dedicated fan base and continues to release new records into the 21st century, such as 2012's We Come In Peace.
