The Volksfest is primarily for young people and families, and is not much different from all of the other fairs in Germany, nor is it especially large. The nicest attraction is the Ferris wheel, which offers a good view of Cologne and the Rhein, but there are also plenty of fast, more dangerous-looking rides. The smell of sugared almonds, popcorn and cotton candy goes straight to your head and makes you feel like a kid. After dark, the thousands of lights are dazzling.
