French pop band L'Impératrice is the brainchild of keyboardist Charles de Boisseguin. Started as a one-man effort, the project debuted with a self-titled EP in 2012 followed by 2014's Sonate Pacifique. The project's lineup soon saw the addition of keyboardist Hagni Gwon, bassist David Gaugué, drummer Tom Daveau and guitarist Achille Trocellier. Lead vocalist Flore Benguigui joined the group just before went into the studio to record its third EP Odyssée, which hit the shelves in 2015. A mistake made by a fan served as the inspiration for the project's fourth EP L'Empereur, which was essentially Odyssée played at a slower speed. Another version of the 2015 EP, arranged to acoustic instruments, was released in early 2017, before the release of the EP Séquences later that year. In 2018 L'Impératrice released its first full-length album Matahari. The band kicked off 2020 with the release of the singles "Fou" and "Exit."
