Charles Lloyd is a saxophone and flue jazz musician from Memphis, Tennessee. Of African, Cherokee, Mongolian and Irish ancestry, Lloyd was given his first saxophone at the age of nine after he was compelled by the 1940s broadcasts of Charlie Parker, Billie Holiday and Duke Ellington. Having collaborated and played with everyone from Ornette Coleman to Don Cherry, Lloyd is regarded as one of the more accomplished jazz musicians of his generation.
