Danish duo The Raveonettes has developed a very characteristic sound and rarely strayed from it since forming n 2001. Meshing shoegaze reverb, surf guitars, Swedish pop, Phil Spector-esque girl group vocals and fairly dark lyrical content, the band's musical style caught on immediately and culminated in a bidding war with fairly prominent record labels within a year of formation. The band even developed enough respect amongst other musicians to have been given the opportunity to collaborate with members of bands The Raveonettes based its style on, including Ronnie Spector, of The Ronettes, and Maureen Tucker, of The Velvet Underground, who both contributed to The Raveonettes album Pretty in Black.
