The internationally-acclaimed Iowa State Fair attracts over a million visitors each year. The Fair, which takes place in August, offers over 200 food stands and more than 60 items on-a-stick. There are also many competitions showcasing Iowa-grown and created foods. The Iowa State Fair was the inspiration for the book, "State Fair," by Iowan Phil Stong. Considered America's classic state fair, Iowa's AG-extravaganza is also featured in the New York Times best-selling travel book, "1000 Places to See Before You Die." Iowa's Fair is spotlighted as the only state fair in the country as one of the world's must-see events.
