Dwight Yoakam is a singer/songwriter, actor and director who is probably best known for his contributions to the country music genre. Born in Kentucky and raised in Ohio, Yoakam began to show a keen interest in music from an early age. After he briefly attended Ohio State University, he dropped out in the late 1970s to pursue a career making music. Yoakam moved to Nashville to try and achieve his dream of making a living as a musician, but after finding no luck, he packed up his bags and moved out west to Los Angeles. In California, Yoakam established himself and his unique style of "hillbilly music" helped the musician stand out among the myriad of other aspiring singer/songwriters in the Los Angeles region. He released his debut album, Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc,, in 1986 and since then Yoakam has been a busy figure--getting involved in the movie business, but always managing to produce some forward-thinking and extremely memorable country music.
