New-wave punk rockers The Undertones emerged in the late 1970s as Irish contemporaries to punk greats like The Buzzcocks and The Ramones. Like its chafed peers, the band's songs were primarily focused on the themes of youth, most notably in the 1978 hit "Teenage Kicks." While their lyrics could be considered to be a bit tamer than those of other bands at the time, the punk sound is still there. Though The Undertones broke up in 1999 the group has since reunited with new lead singer Paul McLoone, who leads the band in performing songs that once put it on the charts.
