Based on the novel Le Fantôme de l'Opéra by Gaston Leroux, Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera is a musical theater production that has delighted audiences ever since it opened in 1986 in London's West End. Set in 19th-century Paris, the show follows the story of chorus girl Christine Daaé and the mysterious phantom, a disfigured musical genius living in the bowels of the Paris Opera House. While tutoring her on her vocals, the Phantom becomes dangerously obsessed with Christine, and as he begins to make his presence known, the growing tension within the opera house culminates in the Phantom and Christine meeting face to face. The recipient of both the Tony Award and Olivier Award for Best Musical, the show is Broadway's longest-running musical.
