Texas is an alternative rock band from Glasgow, Scotland that's known for successfully fusing a defined radio-friendly pop sound with a more hard-lined rock style to create a cohesive and listenable whole. Formed in 1986 by lead singer/songwriter Sharleen Spiteri, the group released its debut single "I Don't Want a Lover" in 1989 and the song went on to perform extremely well on song charts in various countries around the world. Though the group's popularity has since ebbed substantially since its heyday in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Texas has nevertheless carried on and continues to maintain a fairly busy recording and touring schedule.
