Chris Thile is a singer/songwriter and mandolinist from Oceanside, California, who is known as a member of both the acoustic trio Nickel Creek and the progressive bluegrass band Punch Brothers. After forming Nickel Creek with Sara and Sean Watkins and releasing the group's first album, Little Cowpoke, in 1993, he dropped his debut solo LP, Leading Off, in 1994. As he continued to record and perform with the trio as well as on his own, he formed Punch Brothers in 2006, and has since maintained an ardent recording schedule.
