Hamburg's most popular bike race, the Vattenfall-Cyclassics is divided into two events: one for professionals and another for keen amateurs. Up to 8,000 cyclists can take part, as long as they are reasonably fit and have a bike that meets safety standards. Amateurs can choose from three distances: 60km, 105km or 160km. Several filling stations provide cyclists with drinks and snacks en route, while hundreds of thousands of spectators come to watch and cheer the contestants on.
