With her exaggerated accent and Southern US stereotype shtick, comedian Etta May is akin to the female version of the enormously successful Larry the Cable Guy. Similar in approach, May's comedic tone and jokes are meant for mainstream appeal, revolving around American life, the hardships of raising children and occasional light ribs at racial or political issues. Her onstage persona is one of an uneducated country bumpkin, often using the dichotomy between the caricature of her character and her satirical humor to strong effect. Overall, however, May is an easily-accessible stand-up comic who aims to please with a clean, broad act that many will enjoy.
