Mdou Moctar is a singer/songwriter and guitarist from Agadez, Niger who creates a distinctively modern style of Saharan folk music called Taureg. After releasing his debut album, Anar, in 2008, Moctar quickly became a juggernaut of the Taureg music scene. Having since crossed over to international audiences, Moctar frequently tours Europe and the United States, imparting North African folk stylings to typically urbane audiences.
