Focus is a progressive rock band from the Netherlands that was founded in 1969 by Thijs van Leer and Jan Akkerman. Combining blues, rock, jazz and classical music into one cohesive sound with pop melodies sewn throughout, the band rose to fame as one of the nation's premier rock acts after the release of its debut studio album, Focus Plays Focus, in 1970. Focus achieved international acclaim with its 1971 follow-up, Focus II, and spent the next few years solidifying itself into The Netherlands' rock and roll landscape. Following the departure of Akkerman in 1976, the band split up a couple of years later and reunited for a few short stints before giving it a real go again in 2001. Focus released its eleventh studio album, Focus X, in 2012.
