Ealing Choral Society Howard Goodall Eternal Light, A Requiem
Traditionally a prayer for the salvation of the departed soul, Howard Goodall's requiem centres on those who are left behind to grieve. It celebrates the healing power of music to create a sense of solace whilst acknowledging the unbearable loss and emptiness that accompanies the death of a loved one. Like Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem, Goodall's Eternal Light is a requiem for the living, with poetry readings and hymns alongside the more familiar text of the Mass, to focus on interrupted lives.
The programme also includes Ralph Vaughan Williams' Five Mystical Songs and other choral favourites by E. Bairstow and C. V. Stanford. With the London Mozart Players. Peter Asprey conducts.
