Blending instrumental surf rock with 1980s new wave-punk and layering snippets of vintage sci-fi radio shows with sci-fi themed lyrics, Man or Astroman? began making its unique brand of music in the early 1990s. While the rest of America was focused on grunge rock, the Alabama trio had a different musical style it wanted to put forward and took its role so seriously that all of the band members donned personae, refusing to acknowledge their real identities outside the band. This dedication was reflected in the band's live performances, which were completed with space themed costumes. Though the band took a hiatus in 2001, it decided to reform and tour in 2010.
