Formed in the late 1970s, The Selecter is ska revival band from the UK that is recognized as one of the most important bands of the British ska movement. Led by Pauline Black, who once had to disguise herself as a man in order for her band to get gigs, the band broke social boundaries by featuring a multi-racial lineup and a dominant female lead singer. After two albums, 1980's Too Much Pressure and 1981's Celebrate the Bullet, Black decided to pursue a solo career and The Selecter broke up. A decade later, Black reunited with former band members and The Selecter began releasing a string of new albums under various lineups.
