Born in Cuba in 1949, Arturo Sandoval fell in love with music at a young age and began playing a variety of different instruments when he was 13. Although, he soon began to drift towards and concentrate his musical studies on one single instrument: the trumpet. With strong jazz masters as influences, including Charlie Parker, Clifford Brown and Dizzy Gillespie, as well as the geographically leveraged style of Latin music imprinting itself within Sandoval's unique playing style, he would eventually land himself a spot playing with Cuba's national all-star band at the ripe age of 16. Quickly proving himself as an extremely talented trumpeter with a characteristic style, Sandoval would go on to play with some of the most prominent names in the jazz world, including Stan Getz, Herbie Hancock and Woody Shaw. A formidable force in his own right, Sandoval has released numerous albums over the years and maintained a fairly ardent touring schedule, where he can be found regaling audiences with his time tested Latin jazz style.
