The Soul of John Black is the moniker of John Bigham, a singer/songwriter and musician who crafts his own distinctive amalgam of soul, Chicago blues, R&B and rock. After spending time in bands like the alternative rock outfit Fishbone, and working with legends like Miles Davis, Bigham created The Soul of John Black, in 2002. Along with his backing band, the Chicago-based artist released an eponymous album with No Mayo records in 2003. As he slowly adopted the band name as his own pseudonym, performing and recording as a solo act, he began to introduce more experimental elements into his music, including the use of jazz, hip-hop and rock and roll to flavor his own blues sound. The Soul of John Black released his sixth studio album, A Sunshine State of Mind, with his long-time label Yellow Dog Records, in 2012.
