Jason Isbell is a singer/songwriter from Greenhill, Alabama who started his professional career as a member of the well-known rock band Drive-By Truckers before departing in 2007 to pursue solo efforts. Reared in a family with a strong interest in music, Isbell took to the guitar at an early age and proved himself an adept instrumentalist enough so to join Drive-By Truckers in 2001. Though Isbell's time in the band was amicable and beneficiary, he started to feet the trappings of group confines after a couple of years, which ultimately prompted his departure. With his solo material, Isbell opts to pursue a unique alternative country sound that's undoubted a direct refection of his upbringing near the musical mecca of Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
