What started in the early '90s as a collaborative project between turntablist DJ Greyboy and saxophone player Karl Denson has turned into one of the most popular units on the acid jazz scene. Combining tight, danceable rhythms with reference points to the deep funk of '70s artists such as the Meters, the San Diego-based Greyboy Allstars are all about the groove. Each member is spectacular on his respective instrument, but it's the band's sense of expanding songs and really playing off of one another in the live setting that has kept its fans coming back.
