Ah, space--the final frontier, the great unknown, the infinite darkness. Though humans haven't necessarily explored the far reaches of the universe yet, everyone has some preconceived notion of what space is and what's out there. One electronic musician who makes music that seems to speak to the very essence of the cosmos is the New York based sonic maestro Daniel Lopatin, who performs under the moniker Oneohtrix Point Never. The futuristic sounds and sci-fi analog synth noises that fill Lopatin's music spark images of futuristic explorers venturing into the depths of zero-gravity darkness, similar to the film 2001: A Space Oddity, or, to a lesser extent, the ride Space Mountain at Disneyland. Lopatin's drone intensive sound has been breaking waves since about 2009 and as the musician continues to crank out interestingly atypical material, he'll no doubt continue to be held in high regard by music connoisseurs.
