This concert in our summer of “Curiosity” is well-suited for anyone who is especially curious. In this program you will encounter works not by mature masters but by young composers who are still searching. Wolfgang Rihm and Dieter Ammann selected them for the Composer Seminar as part of the Lucerne Festival Academy, discussed their works intensively in individual lessons and public sessions (see p. 49), and also followed the rehearsals with the new music specialists of the International Ensemble Modern Academy. At this final concert of the Composer Seminar, you will not only have an opportunity to get to know eight promising and talented young composers, each pursuing a very different approach and language. You will also get a glimpse into the future: What is driving the next generation of composers? What directions is contemporary music likely to follow as it develops in the coming years and decades?
