In 1993, when two Frenchmen decided to dissolve a rock group they were both in and concentrate on crafting electronic music, Daft Punk was born. Instead of creating tracks with typical house or techno progressions--two styles of music that were popular during the 1990s--the two members in Daft Punk decided to craft more song-centric tunes with enticing verses and memorable choruses. The duo released its first LP, Homework, in 1997 and while the album helped establish the group as a forward thinking electronic outfit, Daft Punk wouldn't achieve massive success and be lauded as the most important electronic group in the world until the release of its 2001 LP, Discovery. The album showcased the two French producers' knack for crafting easy to like and methodically arranged, house-influenced tunes that draw in typical naysayers of electronic tunes and make them converted fans of the tech-friendly style of music.
