The Boppers first gained popularity by playing covers of 50s and 60s rock songs. The group's 1978 debut album Number 1 became a massive hit and one of the most sold records ever released in Sweden. After the release of its second album Keep on Boppin, the band started touring the world and was very big in Japan. However, when the band started to write more of its own songs in the early 80s its popularity almost halted to a full stop. The band's big comeback would occur as Jerry Williams's backup band in the early 90s with the hit song "Jeannie's Coming Back."
