Olympique de Marseille is a French football club from Marseille, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Founded in 1899, the team competes in the country's highest level of professional football, Ligue 1, and has won its first of several national championships in 1937. One of the most celebrated sports franchises in France, Olympique de Marseille plays its home matches at Stade Vélodrome and boasts the all-time highest attendance in French football history. The team is one of the most successful in French championship, and it's the only French club to win the UEFA Champions League title in 1993, against Milan, during the era of owner Bernard Tapie. After a bribery scandal, and after two years of playing in Ligue 2 Marseille returned to Ligue 1 to much sucess. The club holds the record in Coupe de France titles with 10 victories, and ten titles in League 1, one in League 2, three Champion's trophies, not to mention some titles in international competitions. Several notable players to wear the the white OM jersey include, Fabien Barthez, Franck Ribery, Laurent Blanc, Jean-Pierre Papin, Didier Drogba and Mathieu Valbuena. The rivalry between Paris Saint Germain and Marseille extends outside the pitch, and the match, called Le Classico, is widely watched throughout France.
