In 2008 John Hiatt was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting by the Americana Music Association, fittingly, for it has been this field where Hiatt has found the majority of his success. While he has released more than 15 albums, it seems that his songs only see the appreciation they deserve when other people sing them. Lucky for John, those "other people" have consisted of musicians like Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Jimmy Buffet, Mandy Moore and many others. This is not to say that Hiatt's work cannot stand on its own; his musical ability is readily apparent in all he does and this makes for a good show indeed.
