Formula 1's most famous race takes place in the Principality of Monaco, around 20 kilometers (12.5 miles) from Nice. Inaugurated in 1929, the race was won a record six times by the legendary Ayrton Senna. The 3,367-meter (just over 2-mile) circuit features the signature hairpins, the tunnel straightaway and other challenging landmarks; passing is nearly impossible, and when successful is always spectacular. The main race takes place on Sunday, with qualifying in the preceding days. You can reserve places in the stands, but the glitterati prefer to watch from a terrace or one of the costly boats.
