Born in Massachusetts into an artistically and musically inclined family, Marissa Nadler is a folk singer/songwriter and fine artist who spent her first years in school studying painting before turning to music as her main outlet. Nadler inherited her brothers guitar after he left from college and she taught herself how to play and write songs. She released her debut album Ballads of Living and Dead, in 2004 before dropping her third effort and first acclaimed album Songs III: Bird on the Water, in 2007. The year following Nadler was nominated for two PLUG Independent Music Awards, one for Best Female Artist of the Year and one for Best Americana Record, and won the Boston Music Award for Outstanding Singer/Songwriter of the Year. Her subsequent releases including her 2012 album The Sister, demonstrate her dream folk style and siren-like voice that evolves back and forth from a crystal clear soprano to a smokey reverberating haze.
