As a child, David Sanborn suffered from polio. A physician advised him to pick up the saxophone to improve his chest muscles and Sanborn has been playing ever since. Though he received his most widespread acclaim as a smooth jazz musician in the 80s, Sanborn has since moved onto RnB flavored jazz with danceable hooks and catchy melodies. He has quite the collection of Grammys, an array of impressive collaborations and since 1980 he has been a regular guest in the band on Late Night with David Letterman.
