The New York Yankees are a Major League Baseball team and a member of the American League East Division. They are the most prestigious franchise in baseball and perhaps all of the sports. The Yankees are one of the eight American League charter teams, founded in 1901 as the Baltimore Orioles. In 1903 they moved to New York and became the Highlanders. It wasn’t until 1913 that the team became the New York Yankees. The franchise has won the most World Series titles in baseball history. The Yankees also hold the record for the most members in the Hall of Fame, a list that includes Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, and Mickey Mantle. The Yankees’ main rivals include the Boston Red Sox and the New York Mets.
