When three rappers and a producer all met each other at a New York City poetry slam in 1997, they all shared common interests as well as musical tastes and this mutual appreciation of the sonic world resulted in the formation of an alternative hip-hop group called Anti-Pop Consortium. The outfit was an underground success and after releasing a few EPs and singles, the Consortium dropped its first full length album in 2000 to rave reviews from critics who appreciated the group's highly intelligent stream-of-consciousness lyrics. The members of the band decided to go their separate ways in 2002 but in 2007 the band reformed and since then the group has been impressing people with its studio releases as well as evocative live shows.
