Catherine Russell is a contemporary jazz vocalist based in New York City. Born into a musical family, she was encouraged by her father Luis Russell, Louis Armstrong's long-time musical director, and her mother Carline Ray, vocalist and bass virtuoso, to pursue a career in music. Armed with soulful vocals, she quickly developed a reputation as a fresh voice on the contemporary jazz scene. In addition to her work with established names like David Bowie, Paul Simon and Cyndi Lauper, Russell also releases her own solo material, such as her 2006 debut LP, Cat.
