Orchestra Baobab is a Senegalese outfit that offers a mixture of Afro-Cuban and Caribbean music. Initially formed in 1970s, the multi-national ensemble emerged out of the Cuban music trends that were circulating through West Africa. The band's fusion style made it one of the most dominant in the region during the 1970s. Though its mainstream appeal faded into the 1980s as the fickle music tides shifted again, Orchestra Boabab came together again in 2001 as it saw a resurgence of interest in its recordings throughout Europe, where it continues to play its bright, jovial music.
