During James Brown's heyday there was no disputing his title as the "king of funk." His fervent vocal abilities and eager stage presence made him one of the more recognizable figures in music and he helped pave the way for countless musicians and bands that arose in his wake. During Brown's reign as undisputed funk master he had a backing band called the J.B.'s that was responsible for bolstering his sound and bringing it to new and unforeseen musical heights. Though Mr. Brown has since passed on to the great funk Valhalla that many refer to as heaven, his old band is still at it and with a new front man, Fred Wesley, the group sounds extremely fresh and pertinent to this ever changing music scene.
