Born in Quebec and raised in France, Mylène Farmer is a singer/songwriter and actress who got her start in the mid-1980s with the release of her debut album, Cendres de Lune. With often controversial lyrics and sexually ambiguous themes, she earned a dedicated following and eventually won over mainstream critics and audiences after dropping her third LP, L'Autre, in 1991. The record marked a shift in Farmer's style, as she shed much of her shy demeanor in favor of a more confident, defiant air, making her a bona fide pop star in France, particularly after the release of her now iconic hit single, "Désenchantée." As she transitioned into a modern music landscape, she began writing and producing songs for other artists, helping usher in a new generation of pop artists, while also continuing to release her own material, such as 2012's Monkey Me.
