Frankie Beverly is a singer/songwriter, musician and producer who is best known for his work with the soul funk band Maze. Hailing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania he began his musical career in a number of doo-wop groups before forming The Butlers, a soul group that was later renamed Raw Sou,l and eventually Maze. When the band relocated to San Francisco in the early 1970s, it caught the attention of Marvin Gaye, who made the group his opening act. Led by Beverly, Maze captured an international fan base, particularly in the UK, with its various releases and world-wide tours.
