The birthplace of the United States throws a huge party each year to celebrate Independence Day, including fireworks, outdoor concerts, speeches, ships, street fairs, historic recreations and the presentation of the Medal of Freedom, the city's highest honor. Past recipients have included Nelson Mandela and President Carter. Other features run the gamut from an art show to family picnics to an Adrienne and Rocky look-alike contest. All events are free to the public and are held at various venues throughout the city.
