Lucy Kaplansky is a folk musician from New York who released her debut LP, The Tide, in 1994. Though always having a deep seeded connection with music, Kaplansky pursued a career as a psychologist and received her Ph. D. in clinical psychology from Yeshiva University in the 1980s and eventually worked at a New York City hospital. By the the 1990s, however, Kaplansky felt herself increasingly drawn to music and decided to concentrate her energy on writing songs and playing shows. Her doleful folk songs, though instrumentally sparse, managed to catch the attention of the East Coast folk scene.
