Organized by the Heritage & Leisure department of Plymouth City Council, the annual Guy Fawkes Night bonfire and fireworks display is a major treat for the people of Plymouth. Fireworks are usually set off from the Royal Citadel and the slopes of Plymouth Hoe and the foreshore are crowded with tens of thousands of spectators. As a major participant in the British Fireworks Championship, firework setters try to ensure that the display is always of a high and exciting standard and it is, of course, free to spectators. Sideshows, food stalls and rides are always in attendance, which adds to the carnival atmosphere.
