Menomena is a two-man band from Portland that creates experimental indie rock music. The band began as a side project of Danny Seim, who was joined by Justin Harris and Brent Knopf in 2000. As a three-piece outfit, Menomena released its debut album I Am the fun Blame Monster!, in 2003 followed by its 2005 instrumental effort, Under an Hour, a three-track album with each song timing in at over 17 minutes long. The band first earned acclaim for its rhythmic structures and melodies with Friend and Foe, its 2007 album that earned attention from various independent music sources. Knopf left the band in 2011 to focus on other musical ventures, but Seim and Harris continued to release music as Menomena such as the 2012 album, Moms.
