Known far and wide as one of the world's great parties, Carnaval de Québec's annual bash in the mid-winter cold attracts thousands from around the world. Bonhomme the Snowman presides over ice sculptures, dog sledding, boat races on the semi-frozen Saint Lawrence River, parades, and all manner of less wholesome carousing. Revelers roam the city drinking caribou, a potent blend of red wine and grain alcohol from canes. The Ice Palace, just across from the Parliament Buildings, is the festival's headquarters.
