The Everly Brothers was a rock and roll duo that is still considered the US's most successful rock and roll pair. Don and Phil Everly began performing music together with their mother and father, Margaret and Ike, collectively known as The Everly Family. After separating from the family as a duo, The Everly Brothers landed with Cadance Records in 1957 and released its first single, "Bye Bye Love," which peaked at number two on the US pop charts and number one on the US country charts. Shortly after in 1958, the brothers released "All I Have to Do Is Dream," arguably the the most famous example of the their signature close-harmony singing. The Everly Brothers toured frequently with Buddy Holly before his death and is often credited with inspiring Holly's change of style from jeans and t-shirts to suits. The star power of the brothers began to fade in the mid-1960s with the rise of the British Invasion, when bands like The Beatles were dominating charts and airwaves. The duo released Roots in 1968, demonstrating a well-received return to its roots of country-rock music. Phil and Don split up in 1973 to pursue solo careers, which earned them significant attention in UK but only limited success in the US. A decade would pass before the brothers came together for a reunion concert in 1983. The Everly Brothers were among the first 10 artists to be inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.
