Though the Seattle-based grunge act Mudhoney has received little commercial success since its formation in 1988, the band played a pivotal part in the formation of the modern indie rock scene. When the band first started releasing its blues-influenced garage rock material, it influenced several budding musicians in the Seattle area and inadvertently laid the foundations for the evolution of the grunge genre. While other groups like Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Sound Garden would go on to receive widespread commercial recognition, Mudhoney has collected a cult-like following under the radar over its long career as a band.
