In 2007, Dutch pop singer Jeroen van der Boom broke through with his hit "Jij Bent Zo," a cover of David Bisbal's "Silencio." Van der Boom continued his musical momentum with the singles "Een Wereld," "Betekenis" and "Het Is Over," off his debut album Jij Bent Zo. In the following year, he sold out concerts in the nation's biggest venues and opened four shows for musical legend Lionel Richie. The Dutch singer decided to put a new solo album on hold when De Toppers, a trio of Dutch folk singers Gerard Joling, Rene Froger and Gordon, asked him to join in 2008. Van der Boom eventually released his album Verder, in 2009, and his patience paid off when his songs "Dat Weet Je" and "Weer Geloven" became commercial hits. Next to music, van der Boom has become a celebrated television personality, presenting on shows like The Voice of Holland and Lotto Weekend Miljonairs. In 2013, he released the album Deze Man, for which he wrote most sings himself, and started presenting for the Dutch talent show Bloed, Zweet & Tranen.
